The ICE train is in operation since 1991 and since a short time later connections to Switzerland and also Austria were introduced. In the meantime it also drives to the Netherlands.
Its highest speed is 250 km/h, but with 300 km/h this will be surpassed by the new generation ICE-3 which is being developped at the moment.
There are several serries: At the beginning there was the "InterCityExperimental" to test the train. For the regular traffic of the "InterCityExpress" the serries ICE-1 was introduced. Thies consists of 10 to 12 wagins and two locomotives at each end of the train. The dining car is reamarkable for its raised roof. In1997 the introduction of the next serries the ICE-2 began, a shorter version of the ICE-1 with only seven wagons and only one locomotive. The dining car has no raised roof to increase the aerodynamic. Since the year 2000 the ICE-T is in service, a huge step in direction of the future. The train consisting of five wagons with own motor looks quite similar to the new serries ICE-3. And it is a neitech train. According to that its network is mainly on bendy routes (like Stuttgart <-> Zurich).
In case of comfort the ICE is the greatest what the Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) offers. With every new version this comfort is increased.
